"Fish Story" Table Runner

Materials & Supplies:

•	8 Yds. of 3-ply Jute
•	Sakura Micron Pens (Black .08, .01)
•	Glue Gun & Glue Sticks

•	3" Section of 3/4" Wooden Dowel
•	Cellulose or Compressed Sponge

Instructions:

1.	Iron table runner. Do not prewash.
2.	Following manufacturer's instructions, mix tea dye in a 1-gallon jug. Pour 1-part mixed dye, 8-parts water into a spray bottle. Lightly spray table runner using diluted mixture. To set dye, iron table runner using lift and press motions.
3.	Using the 2 patterns provided, cut 2 pieces of sponge to create the small and large rock shapes (Illus. 1). Hot glue 1 sponge to each end of dowel. Let dry. Dampen sponges and squeeze out excess water.
4.	Create a paint palette by pouring a small puddle of each color of paint, except white, onto a paper plate. Beginning with the large rock shape, dip sponqe into three colors at a time. Stamp rocks all the way around the runner edge. Re-apply paint as needed. Fill in the design with the small rock shapes. When paint is dry, lightly sponge white highlights on each rock.
5.	Following manufacturer's instructions, arrange applique pieces on the Magic Craft Sheet® or directly on the table runner, and iron in place.
6.	Using Micron pens, draw details on the appliques. Add highlights to eyes by dip ping a toothpick into white paint.
7.	Glue or sew buttons to jackets and creels. Glue wooden trees on each side of the applique trees.
8.	Create two tassels by cutting jute into two 3-yard pieces and two 1-yard pieces. For each tassel: wrap one 3-yard piece around all four fingers of one hand. Slide jute from fingers. Cut 6" from the 1-yard piece of jute. Set aside. Use the remaining length of jute to wrap around the tassel, 1/2" from the top. Knot and trim. Using the 6" piece of jute, tie a hanging loop at the top of the tassel. Use scissors to cut the opposite end of the tassel (Illus. 2). Sew or hot glue the tassel's loop to the back of each end of the runner.
